KAFKAESQUE, 2020
Oil on canvas, 50x70cm
’The aim of ’Kafkaesque’ was to portray a nightmarish condition. The plain black background makes the painting seems spacious, empty and infinite. The lack of clear distinction between fore- and background also makes it impossible to determine the exact size of the wasps – which makes them appear abnormally large and threatening in comparison to the human.
The nakedness of the person next to the wasps also expresses a deep vulnerability to stings – an undressing of the ego in front of the uncontrollability of the surroundings.
